... Just becaus this is the Burien community...

... I don't live quite in Burien, more in the Arbor Heights/White Center area, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any really visually interesting places (I know this is a stretch, but maybe in reasonable walking distance of 35th and Roxbury) in the area that are relatively safe (just so that I can get some photography practice in on something besides my yard and the school down the street without getting jumped).
I'm especially interested in places where I can do macro nature photography, but anything interesting at all would be fantastic, really.

(also, I totally stole this icon, if anyone knows who it belongs to...)

Two kittens in need of a good home
I have two friendly, adorable kittens, both male, that need good homes (I'm taking them off a friend to keep them from being sent to shelters, but I can't accomodate two kittens), preferably by this Friday.

They are both shorthairs, 1-2 months old (we're not exactly sure), and are fantastic with children, from what I have seen (though, they are very playful, and nip a bit). One is mostly dark with a light ring on his side, the other is dark with light patches.

They are houstrained, and on solid foods, but haven't had their shots or been neutered, but are now at about the age where it is recommended.

If you are interested, have any questions, you can email me at insanityforsale@gmail.com.

I'm not sure if it's considered off-topic, if so, my apologies.

Student and Youth Activist Conference
Several local organizations, including clubs from Seattle University and Seattle Central Community College, Action Northwest, USAS (United Students Against Sweatshops) and SEAC (Student Environmental Action Coalition) are organizing a Student and Youth Activist Conference the weekend of January 20-22 on the Seattle University campus.

We are in need of two things: One: We would like a band to play a short concert as an event for the conference. Is anyone here in a band, or have contacts with a band, that would be interested in playing?

Two: We need educated people willing to be speakers and panalists. Having a degree in or being associated with a group that deals with the topic on which you would like to speak is manditory. The conference is focused on "environmentalism and social justice", which basically covers anything activist-related.

If you are able and willing to help, either in these two ways or just as an interested citizen willing to advertise (we are also in need of "contacts" from other schools, such as UW, PLU, and SPU), please email warway24@gmail.com

We need your help
The local churches of Burien have teamed up with Worldvision to help victims of Hurrican Katrina by setting up a donation center in the old Lamonts building off of 152nd in Olde Burien.

The community response has been overwhelming, and now we need volunteers to come down and help us sort through all of the clothing and supplies, and box them up in order to get them ready to go on the trucks by this Wednesday.

You may have heard about this on Channels 4 or 7. They mis-reported on the event by relating it to another natural disaster in which relief efforts were misused and ended up in a landfill. Of course, upon being confronted with this, the news station (Channel 7 was the offender) did not publically retract the statement... Please know that everything will make it in to the hands of someone who was directly affected by the hurricane if the Pastors themselves have to drive it down there.

I was down at the donation center yesterday, and a young woman who's mother, grandmother, brother, and two children were in the hurricane. All are safe, except her Grandmother whom she doesn't know about yet. I helped her get together some items for her family members, as they lost everything. It made it all that much more real for me...

So please, if you can help at all by coming down and donating some of your time. Even an hour would make some difference. We're not asking for money - only time.

Thank you...

Not burien
Yeah. I'm Everett. And I don't live in burien. I live in Tukwila.
In fact, I don't even really like Burien that much. Burien to me is a Fred Meyer and once i took my car to some window shop there to fix my shitty archiac power driver window.

yeah, i don't think i would have joined this community had it not been 3:30am

Saying Hello is like AA meetings.
So I got this live journal thing a while back because all my friends were like "take this quiz to see which member of Lost in Space you would be!". Or they would tell me random things then say "check my LJ to find out the rest" like they were selling Time Life books.

So I got an LJ and I really haven't used it, but I moved to Burien like a year ago almost and I know no one in the area. There were all these cool Goth/Industrail/Bi(Gay) clubs I used to hang out at in Oregon, Dante's, and Embers, and I never go out here because I really don't know anyone.

My LJ is a joke so if you check my profile to learn about me you wont get much.

Pretty Quiet
Like Burien itself, it appears this list is faily quiet...

I only moved to Burien last year, but it's a great community and I'm really liking it so far. One of the things I haven't been able to sort out is the long-term plan for the "downtown Burien" renovation. It sure looks nice, but there are a lot of seemingly unfinished aspects of the project and it appears that more than a few businesses did not survive having the street torn up for so long.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
